Solar Panel Removal Without the Reinstall

Sometimes the panels are not going back up: the system is dead and not worth fixing, the home is selling without it, the lease ended, or the equipment is simply done. Removing it correctly is electrical work plus roof work — and the part everyone underestimates is what gets left behind: several dozen holes in your roof that must be sealed right.

  • De-energized, disconnected and removed by a licensed electrical contractor
  • Every roof penetration sealed — backed by our 100% money-back no-leak guarantee
  • Utility disconnection paperwork handled; panels recycled or left with you — your call
  • Priced per panel — exact quote the same day, free

Permanent Removal

What a proper decommissioning actually involves

Solar panels removed and staged on an Arizona roof
Panels down and staged. The removal is the easy half; the paperwork and the sealing are where jobs go wrong.

Taking solar off a roof permanently is not the detach half of a detach & reset — it is its own job with its own failure modes. Done wrong, it leaves live conductors in the attic, an interconnection agreement the utility still thinks is active, and dozens of unsealed mount holes waiting for monsoon season. Done right, it looks like this:

  1. De-energize and disconnect. The system is shut down in the right order, the AC and DC sides are safely disconnected, and the tie-in at your main panel is removed or made safe by a licensed electrician — not just switched off.
  2. Remove panels, racking and wiring. Everything comes off: modules, rails, mounts, conduit and conductors. Tile-safe handling on tile; no shortcuts that crack the roof you are keeping.
  3. Seal every penetration. Each mount left a hole through your roofing into the deck. Every one gets sealed to spec — the same standard as our resets, backed by the same 100% money-back no-leak guarantee. On tile we replace or reseat the tiles; on shingle and foam we patch to match.
  4. Close out the paperwork. Utility disconnection / interconnection termination where required, and documentation for your records — which matters at sale time, when a buyer’s inspector asks what happened to the solar.
  5. Equipment disposition. Working panels have resale or donation value and are yours to keep; dead ones go to a recycler, not a landfill. We can haul either way — tell us which on the quote.

The holes are the job

Anyone with a truck can unbolt panels. The reason to hire a company that does this every day is what happens to the sixty-odd penetrations left behind. Ours are sealed by the same crews that seal our resets, to the same spec, with the same no-leak guarantee — and a photo report shows you every one.

When removal-only is the right call — and when it is not

What gets left behind, done right: flashed, sealed, photographed.

When it is not: if the panels are coming back after roof work, you want a detach & reset, not a removal — one price for both visits. If the system still produces and the roof under it is fine, removing working solar usually costs you money twice: the removal, and the electric bills that come back. And if the array just needs to move — different roof plane, an addition, new HVAC — that is a relocation.

Pricing works the same per-panel way as everything we do — the model is explained on our cost page — and the quote is free, same-day, from your address, panel count and a roof photo.

Detach & Reset
★★★★★

“Diego and his crew did such an awesome job removing and re-installing my solar panels when I had to have my roof replaced. They always kept me updated about how the work was going. Prior to leaving, they washed all the solar panels as well! And after the re-install was complete, Ysaul came out to do an inspection to make sure everything was working the way it was supposed to.”

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Legally and practically, this is electrical work: string voltage is present whenever the sun is up, and the tie-in at your main panel has to be removed by someone licensed. It is also roof work: every mount hole must be sealed correctly or you will find them all in one monsoon. We are a licensed Arizona electrical contractor (ROC #331356) and seal every penetration under a money-back no-leak guarantee.
Your choice. Working panels are yours — keep them, sell them, donate them, or have us haul them. Dead equipment goes to a solar recycler rather than a landfill. Tell us your preference and the quote reflects it.
Yes. Where the utility requires it, we handle the disconnection and interconnection close-out and give you the documentation for your records — which a buyer’s inspector or lender will eventually ask about if you sell.
It is priced per panel, adjusted for roof type, racking and haul-away. Send the address, panel count and a roof photo and you get an exact quote the same business day. See our solar panel removal cost page for how the pricing model works.
The leasing company owns the equipment, so removal happens under their process — but their quotes for it are often startling. Get their terms in writing and call us; depending on the lease, we can often perform the removal for far less as their approved contractor or yours.
Not if it is sealed correctly, and that is the heart of this service: every penetration sealed to the same spec as our resets, photographed, and backed by our 100% money-back no-leak guarantee.
